Dyslexia Assessments
Assessments cover a wide range of areas, including:
- Underlying ability
- Information processing
- Attainment in reading, spelling and writing

Dyslexia Screeners can be useful to indicate whether your child demonstraits characteristics associated with dyslexia.

The assessment creates a detailed profile of your child's cognitive abilities and their literacy attainment in addition to identifying any specific learning challenges they may be facing, such as dyslexia. FAQs
Frequently asked questions
How much do the assessments cost?
The cost of a full diagnostic assessment is £495. A £100 non-refundable deposit is required to secure the assessment date, with the remaining balance payable two weeks before the assessment. Dyslexia screening costs £85
What do you use in assessments?
Assessments use a combination of background information, standardised tests and observations to build a comprehensive picture of your child's abilities and attainment. I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where your child feels comfortable and able to perform at their best.
How long do assessments take?
Assessments typically take around three and a half hours to four hours to complete and it is recommended that they are taken over two sessions, especially for younger children. This may be a little longer than some assessors. However, I use a range of up-to-date assessments that look into dyslexia in-depth as well as provide indicators for other learning challenges such as ADHD and DLD (developmental language disorder), which may require an onward referral.
What should I / my child expect?
Before the assessment, you will receive information about what to expect on the day and what to bring. I will ask you to complete a parent questionnaire and also request that you ask your child's school to complete a questionnaire. This information helps me gain a broader understanding of your child's challenges and educational experiences.
Where will the assessment take place?
The assessment will take place at my home in Backwell, in a comfortable and quiet space designed to minimise distractions.
What will happen after the assessment?
Following the assessment, you will receive a detailed report within 10 working days. This report will provide a comprehensive overview of your child's strengths and areas of challenge in relation to cognitive areas and literacy skills. It will include a diagnosis of dyslexia if the assessment indicates this is appropriate. The report will also include tailored recommendations for strategies and support that can be implemented at home and at school to help your child succeed. The assessment may also reveal indicators of other specific learning difficulties and neurodiverse conditions, such as developmental language disorder, dyscalculia or ADHD. These will be discussed in the report, with recommendations for further referrals as needed.
